I’ve decided to share my hair loss story and chat about how I dealt with the whole process getting my hair healthy again.
Loosing hair isn’t fun for anyone. I never considered myself a vain person, but as watched my hair snap off and thin out, I did not feel beautiful. I felt ugly. I felt like a part of me was broken.
For me it was a combination of factors as to why the health of my hair declined. The end of 2016 was incredibly stressful, I suffer from PCOS which caused my hair to thin, then had chemical burn from a scalp bleach. To top it off in 2017 some trial medication made the last of my hair snap off in two inch bits.
I had to leave my blonde bombshell persona behind and stop getting my hair coloured. For a while I stopped scalp bleaching then down the track I stopped getting it coloured completely.
To summarise, I’m finally at a stage again where my hair is healthy.
But it was a brutal journey where I battled with my image every day. Especially because I had a stint of working on live TV and a significant part of my life as an influencer means I attend a lot of events/photoshoots.
It took a long to to get to the stage where I felt truly appreciative and stopped feeling like I was less than myself. After all, I was always the same person. I didn’t know why I felt like having fewer strands of hair would deem me less competent, or un-pretty.
Essentially, life kept moving forward. My life was still beautiful, and if anything, I started to see it with clearer perspective. I started speaking more vocally about my hair loss on social media, and in speaking with others around me, I realized that I was not the only one experiencing it, and that there was a whole community of women who were either experiencing it or had been through it before.
What I did to get my hair back to being healthy
1. Stopped colouring it
2. Regular trims
3. No more straightening
4. Started using Bosely medicated hair shampoo and conditioner
5. Took hair vitamins
6. Used a hot roll brush to style my hair (info in video below)
7. Wore wigs to events
