I tried out the Hope&Harvest Empire Shirt Dress and absolutely adore it.

Being a larger gal. Fat. Curvy. Plus Size. Whatever you are comfortable with saying – we always get told what we should and shouldn’t wear. Jumpsuits are one of those styles we are told to ‘stay away’ from.
I’m here to tell you now that you should totally give it a go.
All “trends” are for all bodies. Wear whatever you want, when you want. How you want
Who even comes up with all these trends and rules?!!
Perfect for festivals, a stroll through the markets or a night out, jumpsuits are a cute versatile and comfortable option.
In early Jan, whilst snuggled up on the couch in the UK I ordered my first ever jumpsuit from ASOS because I just loved the colour and the print. Because it was Winter I wore the jumpsuit with a black cropped jacket and ankle boots. Didn’t think to get any photos at the time (worst blogger ever I know). So now that I’m back in sunny Aus, this time around I wore my jumpsuit out to lunch and got some pics before the boozy Sunday begun.
It’s out of stock sorry babes but here’s the link anyways
Going to keep it real here guys. Lets talk about VBO.
At a size 18, I hold my weight in my mid section (from chin to crotch) so was a little apprehensive that I’d paid so much for an jumpsuit that I had no idea would fit me. The roundest part of my body is my tummy. There are gals out there with the ‘fuck flattering’ mentality who will comfortably embrace any look. (and hats off to those women who do!) So I was apprehensive about wearing a jumpsuit. But oh how I was wrong to worry about it!
I’m not the fuck flattering kinda gal. I believe in aesthetic lines and outfits that hug you in the right places to give you shape. I want to feel absolutely bangin so when it comes to jumpsuits I size up to ensure I have a loose fit around my stomach and bust area. You can wear a jumpsuit without VBO being the focus of your outfit.
With this particular style I loved how the lower half were culottes which is a looser style fit. So if you have larger thighs the material doesn’t cling or give you the dreaded front wedgie.
One of my top tips is to consider what underwear you are wearing. Under this beautiful outfit are high wasted firm briefs. Not glam at all but they don’t roll down and give me firmness to my wobbly tummy.
Straight off the plane from travelling OS I popped past the BeMe HQ in Sydney to meet the team and say hi to my beautiful friend and model Belinda Morgan whilst she was shooting their new Autumn range.
For those of you who are wondering who BeMe are. BeMe are the plus size range available in Rockmans. Now whilst their plus ranged is aimed at an mature demographic there’s quite often a few funky pieces that I love to wear. What I like about their range is that it’s great for basic staples too. Women of every shape and age can shop instore at Rockmans and find something they can look fabulous in.
Here’s a look behind the scenes
SO much goes on behind the scenes, its fun, fast paced and super organised. I’m always impressed with how organised the team are – and they have to be because theres just so many garments to keep track of.
Excuse the lack of correct technical job titles here guys.
Other than the model, makeup artist and photographer, there’s generally a person watching the screen to ensure that the garments have been captured in the right way (e.g. collar is straight).
Then there’s someone prepping the garments and generally another person keeping track of what has been photographed using a number system. Every now and again other people pop in to see how it’s all going. All hands on deck as they say!
It’s like being apart of one big fashion family. This is why I love working with BeMe. They are all nice people who want women to look and feel good.
The BeMe team had it totally down pat with their organisation that’s for sure. Not that I was there to judge at all, I go to so many shoots and everyone does it differently. Check out BeMe for their new arrivals

Like thousands of others, I follow plus sized model & swimwear designer Ashley Graham on SnapChat (total fan girl since meeting her at NYC Full Figure Fashion Week years ago)
But seriously, she’s reached new levels of amazingness by collaborating with Mattel to release an Ashley Graham lookalike Barbie, with thighs that touch. LIFE GOALS PEOPLE.
“Does any little girl imagine they’re going to have a Barbie made in their likeness?” she asked.
When Ashley gets excited about something on Snapchat you know its going to be good and boy did she deliver! Just as ‘groundbreaking’ and ‘epic’ as she hinted at during her backstage live snaps.
The Barbie was unveiled live on stage at Glamour Woman of The Year Awards with a behind the scenes clip of the design process being played to all guests. This is pretty groundbreaking news guys!
Earlier this year, after 56 years of business Mattel, released a range of tall, petite and curvy variations of the worlds best selling doll, Barbie. This also included seven skin tones, 22 eye colors and 24 hairstyles.
It’s what we have all been wanting. DIVERSITY and totally makes the doll more relatable for girls everywhere.
Graham proudly stood on stage saying that the days are gone where you lusted after looking like Barbie. “Everyone can be Barbie”. If you already follow Ashley you’ll know that #thickthighssavelives is one of her fave hashtags to use. So personally, as a fellow curvy babe with thick thighs I’m stocked to see a Barbie with legs like mine.
AND to make it even more real they even made a cute set of lingerie from Ashley’s range.
Well done Mattel.
“[Ashley] challenges the conversation around body norms, and we think that’s a really important message for girls,” said Lisa McKnight, senior vice president for Mattel’s Barbie brand.
Ashley’s doll will be added to Barbie’s group of Sheroes, a line of dolls that’s featured strong women including director Ava DuVernay, Zendaya, Misty Copeland and Gabby Douglas.
It’s no exaggeration to say that crop tops can be the most anxiety-enducing summer wardrobe staple for many women. Especially for us plus sized babes. It’s all about finding the right look for your body shape so that you feel banging’ hot.
Crop tops are actually one of the most flattering summer pieces you can choose, because they draw the eye to the thinnest part of pretty much every woman’s body (the underboob space)
On a side note, if anyone has shown the world that curvy girls can (and should) wear crop tops, it’s Kim Kardashian. She’s walking proof that a crop top really is the perfect way to show off your assets.
Now I whilst majority of us aren’t as lean and trim as KK, there’s a way for you to wear crop tops. My tip is to pair a short-to-midi length crop with a high-waist skirt, so only a relatively modest sliver of skin is showing. If you have a large bust I’d lean towards scoop necks and V’s.
ALL HAIL THE QUEENS OF CROP! and dare I say, this might be the best one yet. This thick, scuba material has a slight stretch, and is made of 95% Polyester and 5% Spandex, which means it holds its shape, without suffocating you. The strap detailing makes it the perfect top for going out or dressing up. Also available in black, salmon, light pink and mint fresh.
I own it in black, just didn’t have any photos handy to include in this post. This crop is specifically MADE for plus size.
Item: Jessica Kane Caged Bralette Crop $34.99 USD
Bright watermelon pink lace with a scalloped trim kicks up this semi-sheer beauty to another level (a pop of color that’s primed for semi-sheer looks). No underwire or padding. Adjustable straps.
Item: Watermelon Lace Bralette Crop $32.90 USD
Handy hint – postage to Aus isn’t cheap so sign up to their newsletter and keep an eye out for their sales as they are quite frequent or even do an order with friends to make the order cost effective.
The black lace top is all sophisticated with a scoop neck and short sleeves, but the sheer fabrication and tummy-skimming length let your skin say hello. Wear over another crop if you are daring or even a singlet top for a modest elegant look.
Being above a size 14 and in my 30’s, Supre isn’t normally a store I step foot into. Mainly because I have a large bust and they don’t stock plus sizes BUT recently I’ve been trying on the XXL items which have a fair amount of stretch. This style crop is still a little too tight on my G cup norks however it may fit you so give it a go. Supre have replicated this crop in many colours and patterns.
Perfectly paired with your favourite jeans or styled with a sexy pencil skirt, the Sequin Crop Top is your staple party piece this season. I personally would add a colourful high wasted skirt.
Aussie babes NOW is the time to buy crops from USA and UK retailers as the seasons are crossing over you can grab yourself a bargain. I’m not expecting to see many plus size crops available in mainstream Aussie retail shops at all this season. HAPPY SHOPPING!
But firstly, try to remain calm, because the new SS16 range has dropped and theres more on the way. Bringing a beautiful elegance to Summer. The allure of a secret garden. The collection is all about classic lines with beautiful prints, bespoke tapestries, florals, bugs, bees and beetles.
Want a sneak peek? Take a look behind the scenes during the campaign photo shoot.
The Location – a converted cotton mill warehouse with amazing amounts of natural light.
Everyone pitched in to help set up. Whats different about this shoot is that Harvest the designer actually brought all her own gear and was the photographer for the day. Talk about skills! Seriously!
On the day of the shoot, we had a small team consisting of:
Harvest Powell, the designer & photographer, the models, myself, Suzanne Stevens, Trelawney Skye, owner of Iridis Cosmetics Peta-Gai McLaughlin our HMUA (Hair and makeup artist), Hayley Carns who turned my frizzy hair into something much more glamorous, Leigh McCann who made sure we were all looked after, as well as Karin Bruce who hosted us at her boutique studio in Footscray.
PG & Hayley Carns worked their magic in enhancing our beauty for the shoot. This shoot was just after many days of being on site at Melbourne Fashion Week Plus so we were all a little weary.
Generally as each of us are getting made up the other models are shooting. Throughout the day we rotated between being in front of the camera, getting dressed or having PG retouch our hair.
Theres always time for a selfie whilst on set.
When looking at fashion images, one seldom thinks about all the events beforehand that made a particular image possible. As you can see from the photos there’s always a herd of people working together behind the scenes.
Shoots can be pretty stressful. Time is money and when there’s lots of people/creatives involved people can butt heads. Happy to report that this was not the case at all for this shoot. Just a bunch of industry friends that managed to get together to do a fashion photoshoot with lots of laughs along the way.
SOOOOOOOO. More importantly here’s some shots from the day. A few of the items are available now or you can pre order some of the others HERE
It was an honour working with my long term buddy Harvest. We met at her 2010 spring summer photoshoot six years ago and have been friends ever since. (oh and I was a brunette for 3 months back then)
Know I’ve been quiet lately guys but you know how life goes. Have been working on so many projects my CurvySam site had a little holiday. I’m back now and ready to tell you what I’ve been up to.
Last month I attended and modelled in Melbourne Fashion Week Plus for a week of networking, fashion and all things fabulous. I was busy snapping and social media-ing (is that a word ha?) behind the scenes for Skorch Mag & CurvySam so stay tuned for a few follow up blog posts.
I’d ordered this Society+ skater dress before MFWP. My number one reason was because – IT HAS POCKETS!! Its no wonder that it’s a number one selling style thats been replicated into many pattens and colours.
Their signature fit and flare skater style is perfect for any body type. Made with soft and forgiving scuba fabric, you will be comfortable and confident all day long in any situation! AND. It goes up to a size 32
Now you guys know, I only write about things that I love. Yes I work with brands but I generally buy most of my clothes and post what I like. This dress was a winner for me.
As glamorous as modelling is theres also a fair bit of down time between getting ready and the actual show. Which I don’t mind at all because I got to hang out with so many amazing women who were a similar size to me.
You know what that means guys, we tried each other clothes on. We had shoes, accessories and a rad dress to wear.
Like the adult version of dress ups.
Check out these babes below. The main detail is that we all have completely different body shapes even though we have similar sized bodies.
As you can see all of the babes above look absolutely phenomenal. The dress moulds to each body shape and dare I say it….wearing this dress makes you look and feel skinny.
I can hear you asking, where do I get this dress from? Check out Society+ which is based in the states. They have great international shipping AND this dress comes in many colours and a striped version too. Enjoy!
Disclosure – this is not a sponsored post. Society+ sent me a gift card for my birthday and I purchased lots of goodies
Another amazing wrap dress has snuck its way into my wardrobe. You can never have too many dresses right?
The Mocha Stripe Belle Printed Wrap Dress from Belle Bird is a dress that you simply cannot do without. I’ve worn it to a wedding, out for drinks, to a picnic and at least once a fornight to work.
Available from sizes 12-22, this dress totally fits into the ‘desk to drinks’ category for us gals who like to head out straight after work to socialize.
There’s enough going on with the pattern of this dress so I’ve kept the styling minimal
(as always – laziest fashion blogger ever ha!)
I love for the dress to be the stand out feature, keeping it chic with black heels and a cute clutch does the trick. For the photos I forgot to hold my clutch, another fashion blogger fail. So just imagine I matched this outfit with a black bag.
For my fellow big boobed curvy babes, the V neck bodice has a looser fit with a cute tie at the waist so its quite flattering.
If you are after some more tips check out my blog post ’10 tips for dressing when you have a large bust’
This dress is simply gorgeous. Every time I wear this people compliment me on how great I look. The fabric is soft, stretchy and it fits and drapes in all the right places.
Lets talk about the fit of this dress. Often online shopping sucks and half the time, garments turn up and they are too big, too small or just don’t look like the photo.
Birdsnest are passionate about women finding and loving their own style. To ensure a great experience with their site and products each garment has extensive info about the fit.
Thanks so much to the team at Birdsnest for giving me the chance to check out their Autum/Winter range. If I lived in a cooler climate there were SO many more amazing items I would have chosen to wear. When I head down to Melbourne in June I plan to wear this dress with some killer boots and stockings complimented by a trench coat to keep me nice at warm
Do you know how refreshing it is to walk into a space to see garments being shot on a size 24uk mannequin? Yes that’s right, an ACTUAL full figured size 24 mannequin.
S&J are all about making plus clothes for plus women. I’ve been following their journey for a while and was pretty impressed with their dedication and vision.
Of course I had a look through the samples whilst they were shooting and came across this FABULOUS midnight blue and gold floral foil chiffon maxi dress. It was soft, floaty and lovely. I immediately tried it on. It fit like a dream so CEO Gifi kindly gifted the sample to me.
I knew the quality was going to be great as I’d already previous purchased some of their dresses from Evans when visiting the UK.
On the way home from the UK I travelled to NZ to watch my two best buddies tie the knot at an organic eco health retreat looking across Lake Taupo. This was one of the most chilled out weddings I’ve ever attended. (and being a wedding coordinator I’ve been to A LOT)
All the wedding guest helped out in various ways to cook, do the flowers, make the cake etc. So chilled. So much love, just how it should be.
It was a hot day so in the morning many of us went to swim in the lake before the wedding. Which is why in the photos I have curly hair, I rarely wear it curly unless I’m on holiday.
As my dress was a sample and did not have lining I kept it on the sexy side and wore a short slip that pretty much covered my boobs and butt.
You can’t see it in the photos, the wrap bust is edged with sequins which give the dress a bit of subtle sparkle. So no need for any jewelry bling. The sides have sexy splits right up to the hem, which were nice and airy considering the hot weather.
Oh and you may have noticed the lack of shoes. Most of the guests didn’t wear any so I thought I would try something new and enjoy the grass under my feet for the whole day.
A HUGE congrats to my two friends Karla & Michelle. I’m absolutely honoured to be apart of your lives. The love you have for each other is extraordinary and radiates to all those around you. Love is love!
So, this big question, where to buy this dress?
This dress is sold exclusively at Yours Clothing UK and comes with an attached blue cami slip sewn in. I find that the neckline sits a little high so even if the lining was on the sample I would have trimmed it down to suit my look. Which is showing a bit of cleavage….(if you got it flaunt it hey?)
Every now and again Target has some great options for us plus size gals. For a while there I was loving the Belle Curve range. Not so much at the moment though. I love for my clothes to give me a bit of shape to accentuate my body.
I’ll always have a wander through Target to see what they have. Plus size clothing is very limited in Far North Queensland so mainstream department stores are my first go to when looking for a last minute outfit. Generally in remote areas the plus section is limited to one to two racks of clothes.
Recently I was pleasantly surprised to find these three outfits that were both cost effective and fabulous. And not in the plus size section either.
Button Front Shift Dress – $39
This dress is perfect for a sunny weekend. Made from a soft woven fabric, this style features a button front, short sleeves and front pockets. The pleats at the waist front and back give me a nice curvy shape. For those of you who have a big bust this dress is quite generous with the sizing. I opted to wear a black singlet top underneath moreso for modesty in case a button popped.
Since purchasing this dress six weeks ago I have worn it at least once a week and I love it.
Strip Swing Dress – $29
I’m wearing a size 18 which also has generous sizing. It’s one of those dresses that you can pop on and your outfit doesn’t need any accessorising. Perfect to wear out for lunch or even at home.
This dress doesn’t seem to be available online but I’ve seen it for sale in stores still.
Strip Tube Skirt ~ $20
Another one of my favourite go to outfits is a tube skirt. The elastic waist holds in the tummy area and the stretch material allows plenty of movement. With the warmer weather upon us I like to wear a loose tee and keep it pretty casual. Being a true Queenslander living in the tropics I tend to wear my Havianas most days. All of my amazing shoes from my city life in Melbourne come out of storage in Winter or for special occasions.
This style can easily be glammed up with heels and a blouse.
