This is an Aussie Curves theme that I was a little unsure of. When I think of sparkle, I immediately think of shiny sequins and bling. Now that I live in the Queensland tropics sparkle and bling don’t feature in my wardrobe at all. {or so I thought}
So I picked up this super cute sequin skirt from Bardot {a straight size store} for $10 and even though its a size 12 and I’m a size 18 I made it work with the help of a local seamstress. Everything else in the photo are items that I wear on a regular basis.
So some of you may recognise a couple of these pieces. I wore them to the opening event of NYC Full Figure Fashion week last year as pictured below with fellow Aussie Curves babes Ashley from ‘This is Ashley Rose’ and Olivia from ‘Wait Until The Sunset’

Ohhh! That ring!! 😀 I like the skirt too and it is great you got a seamstress to figure it out for you. I also like the fact you’ve teamed it with a more subtle shirt, but wouldn’t it be cool to go the other way and wear a sequined jacket too? Like Grandma Yetta from The Nanny? I’ve been googling her outfits all weekend, I think I have found a new style icon! 😀

OMG Jacqueline I had forgotten about Grandma Yetta, that should be an Aussie Curves weekly them for sure.
Double sequin would look fabulous.

Mel says
Hi Sam, I love this skirt and you look great! Do you have any tips on having something like that altered to size? Is it relatively straight forward or should I look for a certain style when buying?
CurvySam says
Thanks Mel. Most altering places can work with any styles so don’t worry too much about buying a particular style. I sometimes take in images as an example of the shape I’d like to create. That way when they fit and pin the dress you get the best outcome. Another tip is I often cut out the inside layer on dresses, mainly because its more work for alters and I wear my own slips under garments anyways.
