The whole interview process can be daunting.
We’ve all been there. Waiting for our name to be called, listening to the clock tick, mentally going through how you will respond to questions, trying to sit with good posture….the list goes on.
So with a new year, if you are seeking a new job, here’s some of my top tips for how to radiate with confidence.
The last thing you need to be doing is rush and arrive in a sweaty frazzled state.
Plan your route, know where you are going to park and exactly where you need to go.
How early is early? Aim to be in the area half an hour prior and walk through the door 10 minutes early.
That gives you a good 20 minute buffer to pop in a breath mint and listen to an upbeat song. You know the one that makes you feel like you could conquer the world? Walk in that door feeling like you are a total badass!
When you look good you feel good. FACT.
Start with the basics ~ wear that pair of underwear that makes your butt look great and that bra that makes you feel like a Victoria Secret model. {well…you know what I mean ladies}
Interview attire varies depending on the type of job you are going for. In the corporate world go for a sophisticated and formal style or if you are going for a graphics designer job, dress to reflect your creativity. Not sure if you’ve chosen the right thing to wear? Ask a friend or even a couple.
Always ensure your clothes are clean and unstained. And whilst we are on the topic of clean clothes, it’s always handy to have a back up outfit in the car.
Ladies….cleavage has a time and place and at an interview keep your lovely rack covered up. {after all you want them to remember you and not your chest assets}
Knowledge is key when it comes to interviews. Make sure you have researched the your potential employers key values and understand how your role fits into their mission statement.
Prepare and practice strong answers for commonly asked questions. Without preparation and practice, you are likely to ramble. Rambling is not cool. Show that you can listen and constructively answer questions at ease by being prepared for the questions.
This may sound like a no brainer but one of the first thing that we forget to do when we are nervous is smile.
At the end of the day, smiles make people happy. People that come across as happy and friendly get jobs. And the more you smile, the better you will feel.
Not only will your smile be reciprocated, which will make you feel far more at ease, but it’ll also signal to your body to relax and be calm.
Confidence is internal. That means that you have to believe in yourself in order for others to believe in you.
Employers get STACKS of resumes all the time. For someone to sort through them and pick you for an interview means you’re in with a good chance. That’s enough to know that you truly are amazing and capable of rocking this interview!
At the end of the day, good companies want to hire the best. Give them a good reason to hire you.
And remember:
You never get a second chance to make a good first impression.
