If you are new here, CurvyAu is a sisterhood I founded back in 2017. I wanted a safe space where plus size women could connect & talk about allll the things. From fashion, to mental health, to body confidence or even life issues. We are pretty active on our FB group and often host meetups all over Aus.

I don’t know about you, but as life gets busy and we get older sometimes it’s a little harder to make new friends. (here’s some tips) So myself and a few friends work hard to create fun events which gives people the opportunity to meet IRL. (in real life). You can find more about our group here.

Last Saturday we hosted the CurvyAu Prom night re-do at Red Scooter in Melbourne. 80 women glammed up and danced the night away to the sound of Lizzo and other old school songs.

It all started with a red carpet arrival & being greeted by our Queens Miss Jay & Amena Jay (because we are fancy like that)

Obvs I was there too alongside our Tassie admin & influencer Katie Parrott

Funny story – my dress didn’t arrive so I hired a Cinderella costume which didn’t fit my bust so I tucked it in and wore a sequin top. WINNER

I couldn’t just pick one or two pics to show you from the red carpet.

Big thanks to The Photo Booth Guys who supplied us with this selfmatic photo system which takes photos and gifs. They have them all over Aus. All you need to do is pick it up and drop it off the next day. Oh and they email you ALL the pics. HA. I have had such a good giggle looking at them

The photos towards the end of the night were the best. These girls know how to have a good time!

We made some cute signs to accompany our two photobooth areas.

Miss Jay had us in fits of laughter throughout the night.

Our Queens had a few outfit changes. At this moment we had just handed out colourful rings that flashed. As an icebreaker we asked guests to introduce themselves & trade insta handles with someone that had a different coloured ring to them. Then during the night we asked them to match with another coloured ring. It was a great way for people to meet others.

We loved having Miss Jay & Amena Jay there with us on the night. They totally understand how it feels to be a little different from the social norm. Us curvy babes and Queens stick together. Women supporting women, always.

We had lined up a collab with a balloon company who cancelled on us the day before the event. So a huge thanks to Jo @icurvy for making us a balloon garland.

We had clothes from online retailers Diane Covino, Monica The Label & Little Party Dress on show at the Prom for us to try on. An area of the venue was sectioned off complete with a changeroom, mirror & couches.

Little Party Dress have recently extended their sizing to a 22. Which is huge in the curve world because they have the most colourful fabulous dresses.

Rather than getting women to compete against each other, EVERYONE was crowned Prom Queen.

We had 40 lucky door prizes to give out. Influencer and prom committee member Jo @icurvy & CurvyAu admin Jo Sykes @joeyhaes handed out over $3000 worth of prizes that were donated from businesses within our community.

These bags from Melbourne designer Wicker Darling were our fave.

Prom was AWESOME! We had a few hiccups with the planning but it all worked out in the end. For those that came – thank you for trusting us to put on an amazing night for you. We can’e wait to see you all at the pool party in Brissy March 2020.
